The city of Naperville invites the community to gather in solemn remembrance and patriotic celebration for the 2026 Naperville Memorial Day Parade. On Monday, May 25, we come together to honor the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. This long-standing tradition is a cornerstone of the Naperville community, blending a morning of deep reflection with a vibrant display of American spirit.

Morning Observance and Wreath Laying

While the Naperville Memorial Day Parade officially kicks off at 10:30 AM, the day of remembrance begins much earlier with a series of wreath-laying ceremonies at local monuments. These quiet moments of tribute set the stage for the day’s events:

  • 7:45 AM: Service at the Cmdr. Dan Shanower 9/11 Memorial (behind City Hall).
  • 8:15 AM: G.A.R. Monument in Naperville Cemetery.
  • 9:00 AM: Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
  • 9:25 AM: Burlington Square.

These ceremonies are open to the public and offer a moving opportunity for residents to pay their respects before the main Naperville Memorial Day Parade procession begins downtown.

2026 Naperville Memorial Day Parade Schedule and Route

The Naperville Memorial Day Parade will step off at 10:30 AM from the intersection of Jackson Avenue and West Street. The stunning procession will travel east on Jackson Avenue, turn north on Washington Street, and finally head east on Benton Avenue, concluding at the entrance to Central Park.

Spectators are encouraged to arrive early to find a prime viewing spot along the route. Whether you are cheering on the local marching bands or waving flags as the veterans pass by, the energy of the Naperville Memorial Day Parade is a powerful reminder of our shared heritage.

Memorial Day Observance Ceremony

Immediately following the Naperville Memorial Day Parade, the community is invited to gather at the Central Park Pavilion for the Memorial Day Observance Ceremony at 12:00 PM. This event features patriotic music from the Naperville Municipal Band, keynote addresses from distinguished military guests, and a final wreath-laying ceremony.

At 3:00 PM, we also ask that you participate in the National Moment of Remembrance, observing one minute of silence for the many military veterans who lost their lives in service, including the 114 residents of Naperville who died while on active duty.

Logistics, Parking, and Spectator Tips

Attending a large-scale event like the Naperville Memorial Day Parade requires some planning.

  • Parking: The Van Buren and Water Street parking decks are available, but they fill up quickly.
  • What to Bring: We encourage attendees to bring lawn chairs, sunscreen, and small American flags.
  • Road Closures: Please be aware that several downtown streets will be closed starting at 9:00 AM.
