Step into the shadowy past of suburban Chicago’s oldest community during the Naperville Historic District Ghost Tours, running on Friday and Saturday evenings, October 16, 17, 23, and 24, 2026, at 8:00 PM. Presented by American Ghost Walks and founded in 2004 by paranormal expert and author Diane Ladley (“America’s Ghost Storyteller”), this 2-hour lantern-lit walking tour guides guests along the brick-paved sidewalks and Victorian mansions of the Naperville Historic District. Now celebrating 22 years of haunted storytelling, the tour was the first in the nation to equip guests with genuine EMF (electromagnetic field) ghost meters free of charge so participants can track unexplained paranormal activity firsthand.
Tour Highlights & Haunted Landmarks
Quigley’s Irish Pub
Your evening begins in the heart of Downtown Naperville, where guests check in with their expert paranormal guide outside Quigley’s Irish Pub at 43 E. Jefferson Ave. before setting off on an easy 10-block, flat walking route with a midpoint seating break.
Naper Settlement
Every stop along the route blends spine-tingling eyewitness accounts with documented local history authenticated by historians at Naper Settlement. Nothing is staged or rigged with jump-scares—instead, the tour focuses on authentic folklore, tragic history, and active spirit encounters.
Sts. Peter and Paul Church
At Sts. Peter and Paul Church, guests hear the chilling legend of a ghostly priest said to linger in the historic parish basement, alongside eerie encounters reported along the surrounding blocks.
Naperville Metra Station
The walk also explores the tragic history of the 1946 Loomis Street train wreck—one of the deadliest rail collisions in Illinois history, which claimed 47 lives—around the Naperville Metra Station on North Ellsworth Street, the adjacent Naperville Amtrak depot at 105 E. 4th Ave., the north platform area of the Naperville Metra Station, and the commuter lots near the Naperville Metra Station at 456 E. 5th Ave., where frequent EMF meter spikes have been recorded by tour groups.
Pfeiffer Hall at North Central College
Rounding out the route is a stop outside Pfeiffer Hall at North Central College, a 1926 theater rumored to harbor up to seven distinct spirits—including Naperville’s famous “Lady in White,” a former music professor, and the mysterious phantom known as “Charlie Yellow Boots”—as well as stories of the Seminarian Specter, the Weeping Bride, and an unsung World War I hero haunting his ancestral home.
- Free EMF Ghost Meters: Borrow complimentary electromagnetic field detectors during the walk to monitor real-time energy fluctuations.
- Accessible Walking Route: Covers approximately 10 level city blocks over 2 hours (8:00 PM – 10:00 PM), suitable for wheelchairs and strollers.
- All-Inclusive Pricing: Listed ticket price ($39.76) includes all taxes and booking fees with no hidden charges.
