Every Naperville summer has a last note, and on August 13 you get to hear it. The Naperville Municipal Band closes its 2026 season at the Central Park bandshell with a concert called Until Next Time, a title that does not leave much to interpretation. This is the final Thursday night of the run.
It is free, it begins at 7:30 p.m., and it is the one people bring everybody to: grandparents, toddlers, the neighbor who kept meaning to come all summer and has finally run out of Thursdays. If you are scanning things to do in Naperville this week and want something that feels like the town itself rather than a booked event, start here.
The Concert That Closes the Summer
A finale carries different weight than the Thursdays before it. This band has been playing in Central Park for more than 150 years, so the season ending is a small annual ritual around here rather than a date on a poster. Regulars notice the difference in the room, or rather in the lawn.
No program has been announced ahead of time, so go in without expectations about the set list. What you can count on is the full ensemble at the shell, a warm August evening, and a crowd that knows it has nine months to wait before the next one.
The series itself is straightforward: Thursday nights at 7:30 in Central Park, June through August, admission always free. Miss the finale and the next chance is next June, which is a long time to hold a thought about a concert you meant to see.
Come Early. This One Fills Up.
The last concert reliably draws the biggest lawn of the summer, which turns the usual arrive-a-little-early advice into arrive-actually-early. Groups start laying out blankets long before the downbeat, and the clean sightlines near the bandshell are spoken for well before 7:30.
The good news is that the lawn at Central Park is generous, and the Community Concert Center was built with acoustics in mind, so a spot toward the back is not a punishment. You will hear it fine. You just will not see much over the wall of lawn chairs, which matters more to some people than others.
- Target 6:45 or 7:00 p.m. if you want to be close to the shell instead of out near the edges.
- Bring both a blanket for the ground and a chair for whoever in your group would rather not sit on it.
- Spread out sensibly. Chairs set up behind the blanket crowd keeps the whole lawn happy.
- Pack dinner. A picnic on the grass beforehand is half the tradition, and the benches near the shell take a cushion well.
Build a Whole Downtown Evening Around It
The bandshell sits at 104 E Benton Ave, a block off the Riverwalk and within easy walking distance of most of downtown. Because it is the finale, it rewards a little planning instead of rolling in at 7:29.
Eat downtown first, or order something boxed and carry it to the lawn. Afterward, the Riverwalk is genuinely beautiful in the dark, and walking a summer evening off along the water beats sitting in an exit line.
On parking: the upper levels of the city decks are free. The Van Buren Parking Deck at 43 W Van Buren Ave has entrances at Van Buren and Benton and is about as close as you can get. The Central Parking Facility at 75 E Chicago Ave is the other dependable choice, and the Municipal Center Parking Deck at 400 S Eagle St opens up free on weekday evenings after 5:00 p.m.
Plan Your Visit
There is no listed rain date for the finale, so if August decides to be dramatic, check napervilleband.org before you head out. The rest of the details, in one place:

- When: Thursday, August 13, 2026, 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

There is a particular quiet that lands on the lawn when the last piece of the summer ends, right before everyone starts folding chairs. Naperville has been doing this in the same park for well over a century, and the whole point of a concert named Until Next Time is that it comes back. Show up, stay to the end, and let the summer close the way it is supposed to.
